1949-1952 People of Culture
Between 1949 and 1952 Japan issued 18 stamps of People of Culture celebrating people who were active during the Meiji Era (1868-1912), when Japan re-engaged with the wider world after more than 200 years of isolation.
The people represented broadly fall into 6 groups: scientists, educators, philosophers, poets, writers and artists.
